Robyn Samuda

Software Engineer & Consultant

Healthcare systems, interoperability, and AI in regulated environments.

For more than a decade I’ve built backend systems and platform infrastructure across healthcare, fintech, developer tools, non-profits, and e-commerce, with a constant thread of data privacy, security, and systems that hold up under audit.

I write about engineering decisions, healthcare data plumbing and product design, and what it actually takes to run AI inside regulated environments. I’m currently a founding engineer at a seed-stage healthtech startup, building safe, auditable AI-augmented workflows for clinical practitioners.

Selected work

Stealth healthtech startup (current)
Founding engineer. Building AI-native products that enable clinicians to deliver excellent patient care and navigate a deeply flawed healthcare environment.
Amazon One Medical
Tech lead for the clinical data services team. Managed the central FHIR server that served the One Medical EMR and built services to facilitate interoperability between One Medical, Apple Health, Amazon Pharmacy and other Amazon health teams. FHIR and SMART on FHIR subject matter expert.
Healthify (acq. WellSky)
Senior engineer and tech lead for the platform and integration teams. Built a ton of healthcare integrations via Redox, Epic and other EHRs and HIEs. Built workflows to handle PHI data that grew from tens of thousands to tens of millions of patients. Went deep into lots of interoperability challenges in integrating with CMS and other partners. Led data engineering, built self-serve analytics and helped the org scale towards its eventual acquisition.
Elsewhere
I've built software for geospatial data services for ocean data mapping, worked with several non-profits, and built in marketing automation and web analytics, legal and fintech.

Consulting

I take on a small number of focused consulting projects for teams working through consequential technical decisions. The work usually begins with a system that has become difficult to change, explain, or trust in production.

  • Healthcare interoperability, FHIR and HL7v2 integrations and system design
  • Architecture and technical strategy reviews
  • AI workflows and governance in regulated environments

This is work I've done for a living, not in theory. The battle scars come with me so your team doesn't have to collect its own.

If that sounds like the problem in front of you, email me or reach out on LinkedIn.
